Nearly 300 years ago, the young British colonists were aware that a coming battle with the Spanish over land and sea rights along the Georgia Coast was imminent.  Therefore, General James Oglethorpe began building fortifications like Fort King Georgia in Darien and Fort Frederica on Saint Simons Island to thwart the Spanish advance. During the summer months, the daylight lasts longer, weekend trips are the norm, and people are outside during every waking moment, plus, the grass if literally greener.  But the summertime does have its faults - hurricanes, heat, sunburns and bee stings, to name a few. Lessons in Living

Long before I could read or write, I remember sitting on the floor at my mother's feet mesmerized by the wonderful stories that she read.  Being a school teacher - born, raised, and educated in the Peach State, Mother was very familiar with the Uncle Remus tales of Joel Chandler Harris and their effect on young children.  Her unique, animated style, my imagination, and the exciting words of Harris brought Br'er Fox and Br'er Rabbit to life.
