Letter from the Publisher, Kenny Smiley

I have so much for which to be thankful.

Reflecting on life -- where I have been, where I am, and hopefully, where I am going -- is truly a blessing.

There are the basics. I have air in my lungs. I am healthier now than I have been in a long time. With me recently turning the Big 5-0, it was high-time I started taking better care of myself. My mantra for the past several months consists of eating better, losing weight and exercising more. I have promised myself that I will continue this regime for the rest of the time my feet are on this good earth.

I am able to work, and I still live the American Dream of being my own boss; the good Lord has afforded me the opportunity, knowledge and drive to build my businesses...

Back in my native South Georgia, I am blessed with a wonderful family...

My new(er) home here in North Georgia provides me with even more blessings...

And oh my precious granddaughters. Watching them grow daily is, in itself, a blessing...

Another blessing to me is Georgia Connector. The past eight years have been a blast, and this winter issue has not disappointed. We will take you to some wedding venues around the state -- many will add a unique flair and twist to your special day. We will get you and your life organized with help from some experts. We will take a trip to Sumter County where we will visit a U.S. President, a national cemetery, a prisoner of war museum, and an excursion train, all in one special community. We will look at some of our downtowns and efforts to preserve rare history within their communities. We've struck gold with our spotlight on Dahlonega. We have some delicious holiday finger food recipes to tempt your palate. And, if that wasn't enough- GaC has a new photo contest ready for you. Pull out those ugly sweaters and send us the best of your worst. We want to see you in yours.

So pause and give thanks for what is important to you. I know I am fortunate, lucky, privileges and blessed beyond belief. My cup overflows. And for the many blessings in my life, I give all the thanks to the Big Man upstairs.

So now, sit back and relax, contemplate your many blessings, flip through these pages, and let us connect you with things to do, places to go and people to see in our great state of Georgia.
